Take Me! I'm Yours...Spreading Love

On a recent rainy winter night seven women, sewing machines in hand, showed up at my door ready to create puffy fabric hearts and share their love with our community. It may have been cold and wet outside, but inside our hearts were warmed by friendship.

Our goal (other than having fun) was to make LOTS of fabric hearts that we could leave in public places in the days leading up to Valentine's Day. In additional to bringing sewing machines and their Grandmother's sewing kits (there were THREE) many women brought fabrics that were special to them in some way: the scraps from the curtains that a mother made for her daughter's first child; bright red woven fabric purchased in Guatamala 20-years ago on a "Sister Adventure"; a tutu from a dance recital; thick wool panels knit by a recently departed grandmother...

After saying our hellos and sharing our goodies, we got to work!

It was fun to think that generations of women (and their special sewing things) were with us.

Lots of cutting, sewing, stuffing and laughter ensued!!

By the end of the night we had nearly 100 hearts to share, and some great ideas for distributing them.

Our next step was to distribute the hearts (and share the love). It was easy to find places to leave the hearts. We just thought of all the lovely people who build community in our town, and share their love freely.

A couple of garlands of hearts ended up at Mary's Gourmet Diner.

We left a jar of hearts on the counter at Camino Bakery.

And we got our husbands and running buddies to help string up hearts in the trees...

  on the benches...

and on the bike racks in Downtown.

We hope that you found a little extra love last week and that you're passing it on!
